I have exams in 2 days but I couldn’t resist the temptation to come online.
Remember nearly 2 months from now I started a quest to find an answer to the following question : What is Law ?
A new legal theory
This is a 300 year old question without answer. Today I can gladly announce that I found the answer to this 300 yr old mysterious question but I won’t make it public yet. I’m testing my theory thoroughly (so far everything is positive) and I will write a small mémoire. This probably won’t get me a scholarship for a PHD (though I don’t mind getting one, who knows !) but it will certainly help many in their understanding of Law while showing the obvious flaws in current jurisprudence. Most of you don’t care about Law but you’ll be surprised by how much your daily life is being influenced by it and how much your Life influences Law.
Other than that, what did I do today : I read, read and read………..to breaking point.
There are a couple of things I discoverred yesterday and today while reading but the most striking discovery concerns Marx. Undeniably he was a great thinker of his time and inspired others in thought provoking discussions but yet while he was living in London(from 1850) he spent considerable time into poverty. Hard for me to believe but true. Yes, writing wasn’t that remunerating as blogging can be nowadays
Marx
The other thing about Marx : he was too busy thinking he didn’t have time to shave. He definitely look like Santa. Just kidding… I thought to myself if one day I would be like Marx ,i.e, poor with a Santa beard. ( it’s not that I’m rich. I’m just a middle class guy)
He was a great man but like most influential artitsts and writers, his work was recognized and made popular after his death. There are disputed claims that he was anti-semite.
Feminism
I also read about Feminsim : it’s interesting. In the book, there was a picture about civil rights movement in America and there was a picture of a Black Woman. It kept me thinking for a while how does it feel like to be prejudiced against ,when
(a) a person is a woman and,
(b) that same person is from african origin.
That felt like twice the prejudice.
Another interesting area of the study of feminism is the language. All my readings actually have the Law as focal point. In a male dominated society, there’s a male oriented language but what is paradoxical is that even the judiciary in England(which is male dominant) keep using a kind of misogynist language in their judgements. Judges are persons who should be giving prime examples of justice whenever there an occasion to do so and as former lawyers they should be more tactful with words. But instead in many judgements, they keep talking about concepts like “the reasonable man” even when the plaintiff or defendant is a woman. They could use the term “reasonable person” instead.
What does this tell you about the judiciary ? I’m sure you got the answer : it’s made up of old persons who stick more to tradition rather than common sense. Human mind does resist changes.
Time for me to read more again , this time about Public International Law.
